A high level business and investment forum, to discuss on ways of supporting and promoting private-sector-led growth in Africa took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa.

A high level public- private sector dialogue on ways of supporting and promoting private-sector-led growth in Africa took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, January 30, 2018.

The event brought together African leaders, including Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Chairperson of the African Union Commission as well as presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal and Niger.

Organized by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), it also attracted U.S. private sector Chief Executives Officers.

In her opening remark, Dr. Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) said African investments are key to achieving ownership and real development benefits for Africans.

Speaking at the day-long Forum, PM Hailemariam said Ethiopia’s population of 100 million, its young population, and fast industrialization rate make it a good destination for investors.

“My government has embarked on the expansion of industrial parks for textile, agro-processing, leather and pharmaceuticals. These have attracted many investors and we expect more,” he said.

He further said that “We are working with our regional partners to enable regional power integration.”

President Uhuru Kenyatta encouraged the private sector to partner with African government towards delivery of universal energy access.

He said Africa has a huge potential for green energy generation and transmission that the private sector should take advantage of for good returns while at the same time boosting people’s access to energy.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni for his part urged the US investors to take advantage of business and investment opportunities in Africa.
