Chinese Wuxi No.1 to establish $220mln textile industry in Dire Dawa

Laying a cornerstone to establish an integrated textile industry in Dire Dawa industrial park.

Wuxi No.1 Cotton Textile Plc, one of the largest textile manufacturers in China, today laid a cornerstone to establish an integrated textile industry in Dire Dawa industrial park.

The company will erect its plant on 40 hectares of land at a cost of 220 million US dollars and is expected to start production in the second half of 2019, it was noted at the ground breaking ceremony.

The plant, to be built in two phases, will create job for 3,000 people when it goes fully operational.

High level government officials, representatives from the company and Chinese embassy in Addis Ababa, including Ibrahim Usman, mayor of Dire Dawa city administration, attended the ground breaking ceremony.

Wuxi No.1 signed an agreement with the government of Ethiopia to establish the plant in Dire Dawa in November 2017.

The company has a know-how and excellence accumulated over a span of 100 years.

It currently has a weaving capacity of 26,000 tons of yarns and 30 million meters of gray fabrics annually.

The company is known for supplying leading global brands where 75% of its products are mainly exported to Europe, America, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
