Ethiopia Secures Over $ 140 Million USD Export Revenue from Industrial Parks

Ethiopia earned 140.6 million US dollars in export revenue from industrial parks in the concluded Ethiopian fiscal year, ended July 7, 2019, according to Ethiopian Investment Commission.

Ethiopian Investment Commission Public Relations Director, Mekonnen Hailu said that the performance of the export from the industrial parks exceeded that of same period last fiscal year by 57 percent.

Textiles and apparel, footwear and other leather products as well as copper electrical wires and ceramic products have been exported mainly to European countries, USA, Asia and other export destinations.

Majority of the products were exported from Hawassa, Bole Lemi, Eastern Industrial Parks, he said. 

He added that 71.4 percent of the planned export earnings from industrial parks has been accomplished during the stated period.      

So far, the industrial parks across the country have created employment opportunities for more than 71,000 compatriots, according to the Public Relations Director.

In recent years, Ethiopia has focused on building industrial parks as a strategy with a view to attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) and upgrading industries, it was learned.
